Celebrate Galentine’s Day
What is Galentine’s Day?
Galentine’s Day is the unofficial holiday celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, on February 13th. It’s a celebration of all the gals in our lives, a day where we can get together and share the love. While Valentine’s Day is about romantic love, hearts, chocolates, and expensive dinners, Galentine’s Day can be whatever you want! Whether you want to plan a brunch, a hike, a wine tasting, or a good old-fashioned sleepover with Chinese food. Here we’re going over all things Galentines, including how to plan an unforgettable party for your girls.
The Origin Story of Galentine’s Day
We’re forever grateful for the writer of Park and Rec, Michael Schur, who first dreamed up Galentine’s Day way back in 2009. In the second season of the show, Leslie Knope, played by the ever-loveable Amy Poehler, gets all her besties together –including her mom– for a special Galentine’s brunch complete with gifts. They chat about their best romances and shared stories of their lives as they bonded over the beauty that is breakfast food. Since then, Galentine’s Day has soared in popularity with people across the country celebrating in their own way.
How to Throw an Epic Galentine's Day Party
There’s no wrong way to celebrate Galentine’s Day, but if you want to host a party, use the tips below for ideas and inspiration.
Invite Your Forever Friends
Shower the non-romantic loves of your life with gifts, and food, or just kick back and hang out. Bring all your BFFs together on February 13th. If Galentine’s Day falls on a weekday, consider hosting a party the weekend before or planning an event you can do in the evening.
Pick A Theme Any Theme
Every group of friends has a unique vibe, so consider your guest list when planning your Galentine’s Day event. Are you all self-care enthusiasts? Plan a spa night at home! Put on a diffuser, play spa sounds, grab some face masks, manicure supplies, and healthy snacks. Are your besties movie buffs? Grab some decorations and rent a new release or stream a classic. Whether you and your Galentine’s decide on You Got Mail, The First Wives Club, or Friday the 13th is up to you-- just be sure to have snacks. While we’re on the subject….
